BMW E90 3 Series

 

The E90 3 series was introduced in 2004 and came available in 2005. There were 4 engines available: 320i, 325i, 330i and the 320d. The 320i and 320d both had a 4 cylinder engines, while the 325i and 330i received a 6 cylinder. More choice in engines is expected at the end of 2005, along with a new touring.

BMW E12 5 Series

The E12 5 series was introduced in 1972. It was available as 4 door sedan.

There were two models available: the 520 and 520i. Both models had a M10 four cylinder engine. The 520 had 115 HP and the 520i 130 HP. In 1973 the 525 came available. It had a six cylinder engine with 145 HP. A year later the 518 was introduced. This model had a four cylinder with just 90 HP. In that same year the 530i came available. It had a six cylinder engine. In 1975 a 528 six cylinder came available. It had 165 HP. In 1976 the 5 series received a small facelift. The grille now looked the same as the one on the E21 3 series and the rear lights where bigger now. The 520 and 520i four cylinder where replaced by a 520i six cylinder wich had 122 HP. The 528 was replaced with a 528i wich had electronic fuel injection and 184 HP. The 530i went out of production. In 1981 a new 5 series was introduced and the old E12 went out of production.

BMW E28 5 Series

The E28 5 series was introduced in 1981. It was available as 4 door sedan.

There were four models available: 518, 520i, 525i and 528i. All models received a better brake system from the E23 7 series and a service indicator. The 525i and 528i also received a check control and a double exhaust. In 1983 BMW introduced their first diesel ever: the 524td. It had a six cylinder diesel engine with 115 HP. In that same year a 525e was also introduced. In 1984 the 518 also received fuel injection and now had 105 HP. In 1985 the 520i received a new engine wich now had 129 HP. In 1986 a 524 d came available. It had a six cylinder diesel engine but no turbo so it now had 86 HP. In 1988 the new 5 series came available so the old E28 went out of production that same year.

BMW E34 5 Series

The E34 5 series was introduced in 1988. It was available as 4 door sedan. There were five models available: 520i, 525i, 530i, 535i and 524td. All models received the engines frome the old E28 5 series. Only the 528i was replaced with a 530i wich had 188 HP. The 525i received the six cylinder from the 325i so it now had 170 HP. In 1989 the 518i with a four cylinder engine was introduced.

This model had the M40 engine from the E30 3 series wich had 113 HP. In 1990 a new 24 valve six cylinder engine was introduced. The 530i went out of production so only the 520i and 525i received this engine. In 1991 the 524td was replaced with a 525tds. This model had the new M51 six cylinder diesel engine wich had 143 HP. In 1992 a 525ix with four wheel drive came available. There was also a new touring introduced wich was available as 520i, 525i and 525ix. In 1993 the 518i received the new M43 four cylinder and came available as touring. The 530i and 540i eight cylinder where also introduced and there now also was a 525td available. In 1995 a new 5 series was introduced. The E34 5 series sedan went out of production. The E34 5 series touring where still available until 1996.
